After the completion of the investigation, the results will be presented to a panel in a hearing. Different schools handle the details of this hearing differently. Some have a single panel member that hears all of the evidence while others use panels composed of members of the university community and faculty members. The panel will then issue sanctions if they find that the accused has violated the institution’s policies.

During the investigation phase, the school will conduct an investigation of the allegations. The investigator will prepare an investigative report for the hearing that will be presented to both the complainant and respondent. The report will contain relevant and irrelevant information, including but not limited to, statements from witnesses, documents, and digital evidence. The investigator may redact irrelevant information from the investigative report at the request of either party. The parties will be given a ten (10) business day review period to examine the draft of the investigative report.

If you choose to report to a professional, licensed counselor or to a member of the military, law enforcement or clergy, the institution will consider your request for confidentiality. However, they will not be able to honor your request if it conflicts with other policy requirements or if the institution has actual knowledge of an incident.
