Once the investigation is complete, the school will schedule a live hearing to make a decision regarding responsibility. During the hearing, the parties can present relevant and irrelevant evidence in addition to their own testimony. The hearing will also include a closing statement from the school and the opportunity for the parties to ask questions.

In some cases, universities will impose "interim measures" after a complaint has been received. These may include no-contact orders, bans on living on campus, and even what schools will call "interim suspension." These measures put the accused student at a significant disadvantage and can last for months in some cases. It can also be extremely difficult to transfer to another school when the investigation and suspension are on your record.
